Ford B-Max is a mini MPV that comes from Ford’s stable. This five seater with sliding doors is expected to hit Indian roads in first quarter of 2015. Expected to be priced in the range of 6-8 lakh, the Ford B-Max is sure to replace the Fusion. When it arrives in India, the under 4 metre Ford B-Max will compete with Mahindra MiniXylo.
Engine and performance
The engine range on offer for the B-Max is impressive. The new Ford B-Max may come fitted with a 1L three cylinder SCTi engine belonging to the Ford Eco-boost family. The petrol variant delivers 120 bhp of power and the diesel engine produces 75 bhp. It is also likely to feature the PowerShift dual clutch automatic gear box, turbocharged direct injection and, the stop and start system. The B-Max might also come with 1.2L petrol and 1.4 L diesel engines from the Ford Figo. All come with a standard five speed manual gearbox. The car is available in three specifications- the entry-level Studio, the mid range Zetec and the top-spec Titanium.
The B-Max is based on the Fiesta platform and the compact-looking, practical design makes it a promising product in India market. Ford’s kinetic design theme is evident in the styling and the B-pillars between the doors are absent. These pillar are integrated into the design of the doors themselves. The overall design is similar to that of the large C-Max with swooping headlights and wraparound rear-lights. Its most ingenious feature is its sliding back doors that gives you easy access. The boot is rated at 397 litres and it can be increased to over 1000 litres.
The compact MPV is deceptively spacious and can easily accommodate five people. The front passenger seats along with rear ones are easily foldable and that makes B-Max a very resourceful car. Inside there is a lot of space for luggage and household goods. The inside also features a host of like the 60:40 rear split seats, SYNC technology and special safety locks and latch mechanisms. The car offers comfortable ride for both passengers and the driver. It comes with standard features inside. Overall, the interior of the car has a refined look thanks to its spacious and elegant design with high quality materials.

The Ford B-Max received the full five star rating in the Euro NCAP crash safety tests. This is because the car comes with electronic stability control, traction control as well as driver, passenger, curtain, side, driver’s knee air-bags. The B-Max handles well and it makes driving in town enjoyable and easier thanks to the advanced technologies used. Other features include electric windows all around, electric mirrors and remote locking.
