Ford Ka • Price, Variants & Specifications

Ford India is all set to unveil its global small car, the Ka. The Ford Ka is a compact B segment hatchback built on the Ford Kinetic Design philosophy. The Ka aims to target the emerging markets like India and it will be a new choice for entry level customers. Likely to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2015, the Ka is expected to be priced in the range of Rs.5-7 lakh.

Engine and performance

The Ka is expected to be available in two engine options. The petrol version will be fitted with the 1.0litre three cylinder Ecoboost petrol engine capable of generating 80 bhp of power. Perhaps, the entry level variant can be offered without the turbocharger. The frugal petrol engine benefits from a manual five-speed transmission. The diesel version could be the 1.4 litre TDCI mill that generates maximum power of 110 bhp.

Exteriors

The Ka concept looks similar to the Ford Mondeo and it highlights bold design, quality engineering and innovative technologies. The Ka is a cheeky expression of the Kinetic Design and its expressive shape and vivid lines grab attention instantly. The front fascia of the car is similar to that of current generation Fords. What is more, the car sports a large Aston Martin-like trapezoidal front grille, swept-back headlights, halogen bulb-equipped taillights and crisp taut body-line characteristic of the Kinetic Design.

Interiors

The Ka is expected to have class leading interiors. Its interior is a fashionable environment and sports Ford’s iconic modern design. Everything features high levels of craftsmanship and finish which is never found in cars of this size. The Ka offers quality interiors and accommodates five people comfortably. It will also have key features like Ford multimedia system, air conditioning and central docking device for electronic devices. However, a lot depends on how Ford positions the new car. If it is positioned as a replacement for the Figo, then possibly certain features like SYNC system and power-shift transmission may be absent. If it is positioned above the Figo, the Ka is sure to come fitted with some exciting additional features.

Features and specifications

The Ka is expected to come with standard safety and security features that matches Ford’s standards. The braking system will be equipped with ABS with EBD and suspension would be robust, ensuring quality ride. The electric power assisted steering automatically adjust itself to suit the situation. Other features include rear parking sensors, electronic stability programmes, Hill Start Assist, central locking, power windows and keyless entry.

With the global demand for B segment hatchback rising, the Ford Ka is set to woo the entry level customers, offering quality design.
