The Mahindra Thar is an all terrain car that can provide you with one of the sturdiest rides you will ever experience. It comes in 3 variants, ranging between Rs 4,59,000 to Rs 7,11,000. This is a powerful gypsy car that can handle the toughest terrains and harshest conditions. The designing of the car is quite similar to the jeeps that have been sold before.
Engine & Performance
The Mahindra Thar comes equipped with the extremely powerful Euro IV Turbocharged Intercooled engine. The engine has an amazing capacity of around 2498 cc and can generate a maximum power of 105 bhp at 3800 rpm. The car can also generate a torque of 247 Nm at 2000 rpm as well. This turbocharged, powerful engine will make it possible for you to drive this car through all kinds of terrains and roads- the car functions quite well in deserts and it is capable of handling some off road driving in the mountains as well. The engine, surprisingly, is not as loud as it could be. Even though the company says that the car can produce around 16 kmpl as mileage, the car actually only provides 12 kmpl. The car only comes in a diesel variant- which is a much cheaper option than petrol in today’s economy.
Exteriors
Mahindra Thar looks like any old fashioned jeep. The gypsy is really edgy looking and is really prominent as well. The car, keeping with its classic design, comes with a classic ladder frame chassis. This, combined with the body on frame construction makes sure that the car is capable of handling the rough conditions that it is going to be subjected to. The car has a ground clearance of 200 mm, which makes it much taller than the usual cars, but also provides for good suspension and better driving options as well. The car has a signature grille in the front and the traditional looking circular headlights as well. The front edge is rectangular, and the tyres are quite broad as well. This makes the car get a really masculine feel. The basic frame of jeep ensures that one has a comfortable ride through tough terrain, which is of utmost importance. The bold classic grill of the car comes embedded with the Mahindra brand logo as well. In the back, the car comes with a stronger and a bigger pipe which certainly provides it with a stronger performance and a better look as well. The doors are quite big- so as to fit bulky things on to the seats itself, and there are foot holds on either side of the car, so that one can get on to slightly tall car without any trouble.
Interiors
The interiors of the car provide for maximum space and safety, though comfort is a little lacking. It is not quite fashionable- it is just rugged and basic. The back seats of the car are front facing and the car is capable of seating 7 people without any trouble. The car ensure that there is minimum problem with the suspension when one is riding on bad roads. There is an open roof option that provides for greater headroom as well. The car finally comes with air conditioning now- a feature that is quite rare for cars in its range.
Features & Specifications
There are tonnes of safety options in the car.There are shock absorbers in the car, with stabilizer bars, IFS with torsion bar, etc. The body of the car has been made with really sturdy materials so as to provide for maximum strength. There is no audio system in the car- since an off road car does not need any entertainment units.
