Welcome the new version of automatic - the new Celerio-X! Wonder, why an extra X is given to the nametag?

Maruti Suzuki unveiled its new & sporty CelerioX hatchback which is a highly sought-after model by the car lovers. The latest Maruti Suzuki Celerio X is a sporty version of the standard model Celerio hatchback which comes with additional crossover-like styling features. The latest Maruti entrant features new designing and there is a host of additional aesthetic features that have been included to the overall bold crossover appearance of the car. Just like the standard Celerio, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X will also be featuring only a single petrol engine option. This comes in a series of four different variants including VXI, VXI (O), ZXI, and ZXI (O). All of these variants are available in both AMT as well as manual option.

Maruti Suzuki have launched the CelerioX at a starting price of Rs. 4.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Maruti Suzuki  Celerio has been a decent success for Maruti Suzuki since its launch in 2014, it was the first hatch in the maruti stable to get the AMT gearbox, making it more convenient for city users courtesy Maruti’s more than amiable asking price. Maruti then tried to give the Celerio a 800cc diesel engine, which was infact Maruti’s first in-house diesel engine, and while it was the most frugal engine in its time. It didn't catch the public eye and the Celerio diesel faded away. The Celerio is back this time as Maruti’s first attempt at the growing hatchback crossover market. The new CelerioX is loosely based on the base Celerio although the bumpers have been updated to a more contemporary tough looking theme, the extended grill on the bumpers lips features an X pattern on black plastic. While the slight flaring to the wheel arches and cladding give it a slightly more dynamic stance.


Exterior

On the aesthetics front, the latest model Maruti Suzuki Celerio X includes some highly designed X-theme graphics around the grille region towards the front of the car model. The car also features enhanced protective cladding on the sides of its body along with a bash plate located on the rear bumper end. There is included impressive smeared-eyeliner-resembling effect just beneath the headlights of the car which is completed in gloss black finish. This unit also houses the highly attractive circular fog lamps. This effect goes on until the B-pillar and the roof rails of the car. 

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio X is available in highly attractive color options including Solid Paprika Orange, Caffeine Brown, Arctic White, Torque Blue, and Glistening Grey.

Interior

The black feel of this majestic car continues to the insides of the car that has been blended well with subtle white accents to enhance the overall looks. In the signature Solid Paprika Orange model, the black seat receives appealing orange piping for an everlasting look. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio X features the driver-side airbag as standard. The passenger air bags along with ABS are optional fitting in the given car model.

The dashboard of CelerioX (and Celerio) has a simple, swept back design but it does look contemporary. And the cabin elements are ergonomically placed. It is easy to get into a comfortable driving position. The steering is also good to hold but tilt adjustment comes only with top end variant. The indicator stalks feel solid and their plastic has a soft feel. The gear lever stick is solid and the AMT shifter also has a pleasing slotting action. The steering and manual gear lever unit are the same as in Swift. 

CelerioX’s instrument console has a simple and classy design. The speedometer with matte silver border has modish looking fonts. On the right side the digital MID displays the gear that you are driving in besides in addition to other information. 


Engine and Transmission

Powering this sporty beast is the 998cc, 3-cylinder, K10B 1.0-Litre petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing power of around 67 BHP at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. Just like the standard Celerio version, the transmission options in the Celerio X include a 5-speed AMT or manual transmission gearbox.

The sporty version of the standard Maruti Suzuki Celerio is able to return an average mileage value of around 23.10 kmpl.

Safety

There are a total of 8 variants of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X model is the AMT and the optional safety pack are considered. All the (O) variants of the car receive the basic safety gadgets. This implies the presence of dual airbags, load limiters, front seat belts with pretensioners, and ABS as standard. The front braking system is represented by the Ventilated Disc system, while the drum discs represent the rear braking overview of the car.

Handling

The slightly heavy engine of the car is able to deliver high riding performance through its high-end performance features. The overall steering impression of the car could have been made better, particularly with respect to the entire highway riding experience.

With light controls, high seating position and a rev-friendly engine the CelerioX is easy to drive in city. The AMT makes things even simpler. Thanks to turning radius of 4.7 metres the steering helps to manoeuvre the car in typical traffic conditions of Indian cities. Making U-turns is also easy. 

Handling and ride behaviour are neutral. For a tall hatch the body roll is well under control. The grip levels are also fine and road manners are what you expect from a family hatchback. Stability on open roads too draws no criticism.

CelerioX has a compliant ride quality. It can deal with small and medium sized potholes on the tarmac competently. Up till 50 km/hour the ride is pretty comfortable. The sharper ridges can seep into the cabin making ride jerky for rear seat occupants. As long as the highways are smooth the ride feels fine but on less than perfect roads the rear seat doesn’t feel very comfortable.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio X is up against leading car models in the Indian automobile markets including Datsun Go, Tata Tiago, redi-GO, and Hyundai Eon.
