Maruti Suzuki Solio • Price, Variants & Specifications

Maruti Suzuki Solio made its Indian debut at the New Delhi Auto Expo in 2012. This famous hatchback is already available to Japanese customers under codename Yk8.  The siblings of this car - MR Wagon and Palette have small engines. But Solio is equipped with a comparatively bigger engine. In Japan, it is sold as next-generation WagonR – that is a very popular car in India. Solio has been a hit in Japan- it has been Suzuki Motor Corporation’s highest selling model (excluding the Kei cars). The Indian market is dominated by fuel efficient and small hatchbacks. The Solio is thus expected to be a success in India as well. It is expected to be launched in the starting of the next year.

Exterior

Solio has a small engine but despite of that, it has generous dimensions because it is subcompact hatchback that is a member if the Kei family in Japan. In the homeland of Suzuki, the car is 3750 mm, 1685 mm and has a height of 1660 mm. Coming to the looks of the car, significant amount of chrome can be seen in the front fascia and in the rear as well.

Interior

The dimensions indicate that Solio is bigger than the WagonR currently available in the Indian markets. Therefore, customers can look forward to enjoying a more spacious interior. The car is blessed with tall boy design so that the passengers get enough headroom. The split configuration in the rear seats is 50:50. The rear seats can hence sit in two passengers comfortably. As for people who travel frequently, the auto makers take care of them too by incorporating good luggage space.

Features and Specifications

Solio runs on a 1.2-liter petrol engine from the K Series that is been optimized for the rough Indian roads. The 4-cylinder 1242 cc motor generates a peak power of 90 bhp at 6,000 rpm. While the peak torque of 118 Nm is generated at 4,800 rpm. It comes with Multi Point Fuel Injection (MPFI) technology.

The smooth gearshifts are ensured by Continuously Variable Transmission gearbox. The fuel efficiency is expected to lie somewhere between 23 kmpl to 24 kmpl, which is also the figure for the Japanese model. Indian buyers can expect two options for drive – both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The front coil features MacPherson struts and the rear has coil springs. Both these work together to make sure that the car will effectively absorb the shocks on the uneven Indian roads.

The safety of passengers is ensured with the ABS- Anti-lock Braking System, an anti-theft mechanism, the smart key system and also keyless entry.
