Mercedes Benz C Class • Price, Variants & Specifications
The new Mercedes Benz C class was launched in India in November 2014. The model was first unveiled in USA in December 2013, but has taken almost two years to reach India. Several modifications have been introduced in this new version of the car. The car is priced at Rs. 39.16 lakhs. It will compete against Audi A4, BMW 3 series and the Volvo S60. Several facelifts make this luxury sedan one of the most coveted cars in India.
Engine & Performance
The new Mercedes Benz C Class is equipped with the C200 CDI engine. This is a 2496 cc V6 musters engine that generates an enormous power of 204 bhp at 6100 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 245 Nm between 2900 and 5500 rpm. It is mated to a 7G TRONIC transmission. It is easy to handle and has a quick response. This has been reinforced by features like Agility control suspension and Agility control speed sensitive steering.
The car is expected to deliver an average mileage of 16 kmpl.
The exterior design of the new Mercedes Benz C Class has received several modifications. The car is now based on MRA or Mercedes Rear Wheel drive Architecture platform. Aluminum has been liberally used in the construction of the body, reducing the overall weight by almost 100 kgs which is bound to influence the driving dynamics. The exterior design bears strong resemblance to S class sedan. The new C Class is longer and wider though the height is less compared to the older model. A sporty effect has been achieved with the revised design of the headlights which are blacked out and are paired with AMG front grille. The car has dual body colors with a different shade of the roof. Sculpted lines of the body, flared wheel arches and wide chrome horizontal slats on the front grille complete the new look.
The interior of the car is dominated by the three spoke steering wheel. The interior upholstery is extremely stylish with contrast stitching in grey and blue. Microfiber has been used for the seats. The dashboard is dominated by the standard satellite navigation system. Silver and black has been used in the center console. However, the rear seats can be a little cramped for tall people. The interior of the car is well insulated so that the passengers are assured of a cozy and almost soundless riding experience.
Features & Specifications
In addition to the standard features, the new Mercedes Benz C Class is packed with a number of features. Several new and innovative equipments are being offered in this model. The best known among such innovations are the AIRMATIC air suspension, ATTENTION ASSIST monitoring system and the PRESAFE braking system etc.
Comparison to other cars in the same segment
The new Mercedes Benz C Class lacks a sporty appeal though several small features have been added to the design to rectify this problem. The interior is also slightly cramped compared to the other cars of this class. However, there are no complaints to be made about the engine, powertrain or the performance of the car. In addition, the BlueEfficiency technology has been effectively incorporated in the car to ensure an eco friendly performance.
The current version of the Mercedes Benz C Class is one of the best luxury cars in India. The price may be considered to be somewhat steep and a few more features may have been included in it. Still, it is one of the most economically viable model of Mercedes that you can own in India.
