Three persons, including a woman, have been booked for abetting the suicide of a fellow colleague, said the police here Thursday.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Ramesh Kumar Bhagat, who was working at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering and Technology here as an assistant professor. Police said he committed suicide because he was abused by his colleagues.
"Ramesh was humiliated by Navneet Kaur and Navtej Singh Ghumman -- both assistant professors in the same college -- on Tuesday. Then on Tuesday evening, Navneet called her husband Gurpreet Singh and they severely thrashed Ramesh inside the college campus," said Gurpreet Singh, investigation officer.
Ramesh committed suicide by driving his car into the Sirhind feeder canal here later Tuesday night. His car and body were fished out late Wednesday, he said.
Following a complaint from Ramesh's father, police are investigating the matter, the officer added.
