Indian Overseas Bank was founded by Shri.M.Ct.M. Chidambaram Chettyar on 10th February 1937. The main objectives were specialising in foreign exchange business and overseas banking. The Bank had opened three branches simultaneously exactly on the inaugural day, at Karaikudi and Chennai in India and Rangoon in Burma. IOB, one of the nationalised banks in India has its headquarters at Chennai.
