We have natural alternatives to most of the household products that we commonly buy from shops. If we look around, we can always find homemade substitutes for most of the synthetic products that we use on a regular basis. It is safe to use such homemade products rather than the synthetic products available in the market. When it comes to hair care, homemade shampoos are healthier products sans chemicals that often damage our hair and scalp. Using natural shampoos can do us a power of good. Here are a few recipes that comes in handy for every household.
1. Egg and honey
You can make a homemade shampoo easily. Mix two eggs in a bowl and rub it onto your hair and scalp. You can also make a homemade conditioner to rinse the hair. Pour 2 tablespoons of vinegar (lemon juice) into 1litre of water and add three drops of aromatic oil. Rinse your hair with the mixture.
The hair grows shinier and healthier. Another way is to take three egg-yolks and mix it with three tablespoons of honey. Apply it on wet hair and massage it onto your scalp. You can rinse your hair with the homemade rinsing substance after washing the hair.
2. Shampoo with coconut milk and Castile soap
The essential ingredients for the shampoo are ¼ cup of coconut milk, 1/3 cup of liquid Castile soap, ½ teaspoon of vitamin oil and 20 drops of essential oil of your choice. Combine all the ingredients in a shampoo bottle and shake well to mix. This shampoo can be used for up to one month and it has to be shaken well before use. Use about a teaspoon every time you shampoo.
3. Coconut milk shampoo
To make coconut milk shampoo, you need ¼ cup of coconut milk, 1/3 cup of baby shampoo of your choice, one tablespoon of vitamin E, olive or almond oil and 10 -20 drops of essential oil. Pour all the ingredients into a shampoo bottle and shake well. The coconut milk shampoo is ready for use.
4. Shampoo with baking soda
Baking soda is a perfect ingredient for homemade shampoo. The easiest way to make baking soda shampoo is to make a paste of one tablespoon of baking soda and a little water in your palm. Rub this paste on to your scalp and then rinse your hair. Baking soda cleans the hair and removes the dirt. This shampoo is good for greasy hair.
5. Honey shampoo
The ingredients for honey shampoo are one tablespoon of raw honey and three table spoons filtered water. Slightly heat the mixture over very low heat to dissolve the honey. Add a few drops of essential oil. Massage a few tablespoons of honey shampoo on the scalp and then rinse well. Make the shampoo for a single use to avoid spoilage.
6. Lemon juice for itchy, dry scalp
Massage two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice on to the scalp and then rise with water. Rinse again with one teaspoon of lemon juice mixed in one cup of water. Lemon juice is used to treat itch and dry scalp. Lemon juice lightens the hair.
7. Tea Tree oil
Tea tree oil is a powerful anti-fungal and antibacterial agent used to treat dandruff. It reduces itchiness, flakiness and dryness. Add 10 or 20 drops to ½ cup of baby shampoo of your choice and use it daily. Two or three drops of tea tree oil mixed in one tablespoon of vegetable oil can be massaged onto the scalp for dandruff.
8. Apple cider vinegar
Applying apple cider vinegar once or twice a week can cure itchy, dry scalp. Combine ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup of water and spray it on your hair and scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and allow it to remain for 15 minutes. Then rinse well.
