Character Development in Children - Age 2 to 3 Years
Observation
This age can cause big changes in kids,also big emotions. Your 2-year-old will gain more control over his own body and mind.Once guided for basic characters,it will be set along with gaining control over oneself. Your child's vocabulary will likely be expanding quickly.Typical vocabulary for this age ranges from about fifty to over 250 words.
The 'Hand-Eye' co-ordination of the kid improves at this age.Your kid begin to show more of a preference for either his left or right hand. Ignore any folklore about the disadvantages of left-handedness.Hand dominance is an inherited characteristic.No worries required on the same.
The kid begin to think about objects and people in a complex way, attaching memories, experiences, and his opinions to them.May show a preference for some children and adults over others.
Approach
- The kid may ask 'Why' a lot.Answer all his inquiries and questions completely so you can share your knowledge and insights about the world with your child.
- Since the kid show fast transitions in his response,there may be a chance of stimulation overload.Avoid it,means avoid being exposed to too much visual/auditory stimulation,so your child has to let out the extra stimuli in the form of a tantrum,screaming or other behaviors.Remember the proverb,"Two many cooks spoil the broth"
- These years are wonderful and challenging for the kids.Make sure your child can only access items that are safe for him.Keep the medicine box,all breakables and sharp edges well out of reach.

- Involve him in books introducing colors, shapes, animals,birds etc.
- Answer all of his inquiries and questions completely so you can share your knowledge and insights about the world with your child.Once again saying,teach them the basic facts for the entire life, right at this age.
