Character Development in Children - Age 3 to 4 Years
Observation
This age kids enjoy looking at books and listening to stories from books.Around 4 years, the kid begin to be purposeful, goal directed and begin to make use of a plan. Child begin to be more comfortable separating from parents.
The kid learn to recognize visual similarities and differences between objects,learning more new words and building simple sentences.Our kid also show peak interest in role play.We often see the kids acting as shop-keepers,doctors and kind of people they see around them.
Approach
- Try to provide an environment that is best supportive for the child's intentions.Articles and activities can be introduced both at home and play-school.
Eg: Block-Space matching games help the kid to learn to distinguish objects and identify similarities. - Continue introducing new words and reading to her/him.
- The role-play,even though fun,can be made use to an extend to build up a frame in kid's mind about what he/she want to become in future.Keep in mind the words from a Pilot of Indian AirForce ,"Dad gave me a toy Aeroplane when i was young,which initiated the dream in me, where i stand now."
Specials
- Involve the kid in simple number activities, alphabet play, copying letters, matching/sorting etc.
- Encourage to perform many of the self-care tasks such as dressing,brushing and washing hands, though they may need help.
