Ankara, Oct 25

The toll from a powerful quake in southeast Turkey rose to 432 Tuesday, officials said.

Over 1,350 others were injured in Sunday's 7.2 magnitude quake in Van province, the Disaster and Emergency Administration said.

A two-week-old baby was rescued from the rubbles in Ercis district Tuesday, almost two days after the quake, one of Turkey's most powerful in a decade.

Hundreds of others are still believed to be trapped under the rubbles and the rescue work is ongoing, Xinhua reported.

About 80 multistorey buildings collapsed in Ercis town, which is close to the Iranian border.

Over 3,000 rescue staff, 355 engineering vehicles and more than 100 ambulances were deployed in the affected region.

Turkey has so far refused assistance from other countries.
