A Chinese woman has been charged with killing her mother-in-law and her three-year-old son after she was upset over her divorce, and then trying to commit suicide, a media report said Wednesday.
The 33-year-old woman surnamed Chen in Guangzhou in south China was divorced in March. She did not get an amount of 70,000 yuan (around $11,000) in compensation, which caused her to commit the murder, the Shanghai Daily reported.
The woman hated her mother-in-law and accused her of always following her like a shadow and being the cause of her broken marriage.
She returned to her home the day after the divorce and stabbed her mother-in-law to death. She then went to the bedroom of her son and killed the sleeping boy as well.
"I killed my son out of love," the woman told the court.
She said she feared her boy would be taunted being the son of a murderer, and abused by a step-mother.
She was arrested when she tried to commit suicide next to the body of her son.
The woman's ex-husband asked the court to give her the death penalty.
Chen said she wished to donate her organs, except her eyes. "I want to keep my eyes to see my dearest son in the other world."
The court has not yet given a verdict.
