The Supreme Court Thursday issued notice to a consultancy firm with offices in Chennai and Singapore on Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's plea seeking contempt of court proceedings against it.

Swamy sought the proceedings against the company for filing a defamation case against him in a Singapore court.

The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan issued notice on Swamy's allegation that Singapore-headquartered Advantage Strategic Consulting Singapore Pte Ltd had filed the defamation case to deter him from pursuing litigation seeking Finance Minister P. Chidambaram's prosecution for his alleged role in the 2G scam.

Swamy said Chidambaram's son Karti and daughter-in-law Srinidhi held stakes in the company. He said the firm's operations in Singapore and India were linked.

Pointing to the link between Advantage India and Karti, Swamy said that 67 percent equity in Advantage India was owned by company Ausbridge Private Ltd. and he held 94.74 percent equity in Ausbridge.

Swamy said that another 23 percent stakes in Advantage India was held by company Kriya FMGG promoted by Srinidhi.

The court issued the notice returnable after 12 weeks, as Swamy told the court that his submissions involved case law, facts of the case and the contemnors.

Besides Chennai-based Advantage Strategic Consulting and its Singapore associate, Swamy named P. Chidambaram and Karit as the contemnors.

However, the court did not issue notice either to Chidambaram or his son.

Swamy alleged that "the contemnors have sought to obstruct the administration of justice, through their employees and agents and more particularly through Advantage Strategic Consulting Singapore Pte Ltd".

He said that defamation proceedings were initiated against him in Singapore to interfere with the apex court proceedings in 2G case.
