The Congress Sunday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of "double-speak" on preventing spread of linguistic chauvinism in Maharashtra.
Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said that if the RSS was genuinely concerned in protecting the Hindi-speaking people in Maharashtra, it should ask the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to snap ties with the Shiv Sena.
"The BJP is a political wing of the RSS," Ahmed said, adding that the RSS should ask the party to snap its ties with the Shiv Sena."Otherwise (it will be understood that) the RSS is simply indulging in double-speak."
RSS leader Ram Madhav had said the Sangh Parivar was opposed to discrimination on the basis of language and had asked its volunteers in Maharashtra to try and prevent spread of anti-Hindi feelings in the state.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told reports in Guwahati Saturday that Indians could earn their livelihood anywhere in the country.
