The new thriller "Edge of Darkness" starring Mel Gibson landed in second place with $17.1 million. Disney comedy "When in Rome" earned $12.1 million in third place, followed by "Tooth Fairy" with $10 million.

Apocalyptic thriller "The Book of Eli" rounded out the top five with $8.8 million on the weekend.
