New Delhi, March 22

Delhi High Court Monday directed the Civil Aviation secretary to convene a meeting of the officials concerned to solve the noise pollution problem being faced by the residents of the Vasant Kunj area due to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport's third runway.

Justice S. Muralidhar directed the secretary to convene the meeting including the petitioners before April 5 and file a status report by May 18.

Another bench of the court earlier this month had lifted the night curfew imposed on the third runway of IGI.

"The night curfew (banning of landing and take-off between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.) imposed in May last year on the newly commissioned runway has also been lifted for the time being," a division bench of acting Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta had said.

Earlier, the court had barred Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) from using two runways at the IGI airport after a nearby hospital alleged that the noise created by landing of planes was disturbing its patients.
