Chinese authorities have arrested a man wanted in the killing of an Indian origin taxi driver in New Zealand, police said here Monday.
The 23-year-old suspect was arrested last Thursday in China, the New Zealand Herald reported.
New Zealand officials flew to Shanghai Friday to assist "with evidential matters and discuss the next steps in the investigation", police said.
Hiren Mohini, a 39-year-old father of two, was brutally stabbed to death after driving a passenger from Auckland to suburban Mt Eden Jan 31.
Meanwhile, police have informed Mohini's family of the weekend's developments Monday.
Officers recovered a knife in the days following the killing, which police described as a "vicious" and "frenzied" attack, the report said.
Police later identified the suspect but by then he had fled New Zealand.
