Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh arrived here Sunday on a five-day visit to Sri Lanka.

He is to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and service commanders during his visit, Xinhua reported.

He was received at the airport by his Sri Lankan counterpart Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya.

He is the highest ranking Indian military officer to visit Sri Lanka since the end of the war between Sri Lankan government troops and Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009.
