Businessman held for making bomb hoax call

A businessman was arrested for making a hoax call claiming that a bomb has been planted on a Metro train here Monday, police said.

"Pawan Mittal, 42, a sanitary ware trader, was held from Delhi-Uttar Pradesh Apsara border after a technical surveillance," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain.

The staff at Shastri Park Metro station received the call at 12.15 a.m. that a bomb has been planted on a Metro coach plying from Shahdara to Kashmere Gate.

Paramilitary and police teams were alerted. "We did not find any bomb. It was a hoax call," said Jain.

Police then traced the call to Mittal's phone. During interrogation, Mittal told police that he made a call to just for fun.

Delhi Police warned the public of strict action on such pranks. "It creates a lot of problems. The hoax caller must be ready to face strict legal action for the misdeed," added Jain.
