The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday criticised the government for not allowing the body of a Telangana supporter, who hanged himself at India Gate Wednesday, to be taken to the Andhra Bhavan here.

"People wanted to pay tributes but the body was taken to airport. It is like adding salt to injury," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

The BJP leader said that people in Telangana region had committed suicide due the government's "betrayal" on the issue of granting statehood to Telangana.

Javadekar said Congress leaders were creating confusion in the minds of people by their statements on creation of the new state.

He said BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had visited the Telangana region and called upon people not to commit suicide.

M. Yadi Reddy hanged himself from a tree at India Gate Wednesday in support of demand for creation of new state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.

Javadekar said his body was taken straight from a hospital to the airport Thursday.
