Islamabad, Oct 2

The toll in the dengue outbreak in Pakistan's Lahore city Sunday rose to 127 after three more people succumbed to the disease, a media report said.

According to the Punjab health department, more than 12,000 cases of dengue were reported in the province, of which over 11,240 cases were recorded in Lahore, the provincial capital. So far 139 people died of dengue in the province.

Currently, 1,649 dengue patients are under treatment in different hospitals in Punjab, Geo TV reported.

Prolonged rains and high temperatures provide ideal breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmit the dengue virus to humans.
