Amritsar, Jan 18

Alert Border Security Force (BSF) troopers Wednesday morning shot dead an intruder and recovered 17 kg heroin and fake currency with a face value of over Rs.10 lakh near an outpost along the India-Pakistan border in the Amritsar sector in Punjab.

BSF officials here said the intruder was killed in cross-firing between the BSF and at least three people who were trying to sneak into India in thick fog along the fenced border.

The incident took place near the Bheropal border outpost, 35 km from here.

The BSF troopers challenged the intruders, who were across the fence. However, they fired at the BSF and in the return fire one person was killed.

Officials said that the recovered heroin was worth crores of rupees in the international market.
