VIPs travelled by IAF planes and helicopters on 1,888 occasions over three years since April 2009, raking up a Rs.28.83 crore bill, of which Rs.11 crore is still to be paid, parliament was informed Monday.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony told Lok Sabha in a written reply that in 2009-10, IAF had raised a bill of Rs.4.32 crore, in 2010-11 Rs.11.89 crore and in 2011-12 Rs.12.62 crore.

"An amount of Rs.11.80 crore remains outstanding," Antony said.

He also clarified that as per existing instructions, the prime minister is entitled to use IAF planes for non-official purposes too.

During the last three years, bills amounting to Rs.14.17 crore were raised for non-official use of IAF planes by the prime minister and all the bills up to March 30 this year have been paid, except for one bill amounting to Rs.23,200.
