Chennai, June 19

DMDK leader A.Vijayakant Tuesday announced his party's decision to boycott the ensuing presidential poll due to the central government's "refusal" to solve any of the issues affecting Tamil Nadu.

In a statement issued here, Vijayakant said the people of the state vote in every election but are deceived by the central government and its alliance partners.

With 29 members in the state assembly, DMDK is the principal opposition party and Vijayakant is the leader of the opposition.

According to Vijayakant, it was better not to participate in the polls given the central government's attitude towards the interests of the state in issues like the Mullaperiyar Dam row with Kerala, lack of progress in linking of rivers, the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils and others.
