Kolkata, July 30

Weeks after Maoist top gun Bikram alias Arnab Dam was arrested, two female members of his squad Monday surrendered with their arms at the West Bengal state secretariat.

Shikha Hansda and Champa Hembram, both in their thirties, surrendered before Director General of Police Naparajit Mukherjee at the Writers' Buildings. They also gave up two rifles and a few rounds of ammunition.

Both Hansda and Hembram were members of the Ayodhya Hills squad of Purulia district, led by Bikram, and were active along the West Bengal-Jharkhand border.

They were suspected to be involved in several incidents of violence and a number of cases were pending against them, police said.

Bikram was arrested July 16.
