Lucknow, Aug 14

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Tuesday asked officials to explore non-conventional sources of energy to bridge the demand-supply gap in power.

Saying that non-availability of power was hampering development in many areas in the state, Yadav said small solar energy and biomass power plants could be set up.

He said paddy straw, pulse straw, dry shrubs of mustard, cow dung and forest wastes like the lantana grass could be used to produce electricity.

The chief minister said his government would approve such plants fast.
