Lucknow, Aug 18

Rail traffic on the important Jhansi-Band sector in Uttar Pradesh was hit for over four hours Saturday after the engine of the Kanpur-bound Shram Shakti Express was derailed near Kanpur. No passenger was injured in the mishap, an official said.

The engine jumped the track near the Juhi yard on the outskirts of the Kanpur Central railway station, where the train, coming from New Delhi, had halted briefly, a railway official told IANS.

Sandeep Mathur, public relations officer of North Central Railways (NCR), said the incident took place around 6:30 a.m.

Officials said that a major accident was averted as the train was moving at a slow speed when the derailment occurred.
