China mulls centre for Arctic studies

China plans to open a research institute in Shanghai for Arctic studies.

The centre will focus on issues like adaptation to climate change and sustainable development, Xinhua reported Saturday.

It was announced during a visit of China's fifth Arctic expedition team to Iceland. Both sides will jointly set up a polar light observation station in the Arctic country.
