Journalist S. Dharamarajan dead

The last rites of veteran journalist S. Dharmarajan, who died at his home here following brief illness, were held Sunday, a family friend. He was 78.

A well-respected journalist whose demeanour had earned him many friends in the profession and outside, Dharmarajan passed away Saturday. He is survived by his wife Lata, daughter Smita, son-in-law Nandakumar and grand-daughter Ananya.

Having worked briefly for Free Press Journal and Indian Express, Dharmarajan joined the Times of India in 1961. During his 33-year-long stint with the Times group, he began as a staff reporter and rose to become the chief reporter in the late 1980s.
