Three media persons, including a freelance journalist, were arrested for harassing a Delhi-based doctor after conducting a sting operation involving his clinic, police said Saturday.
Saurabh Tripathi, 21, Sachin Mishra, 33, and Himanshu Tiwari, 29, were arrested Friday night and sent to 14 days judicial custody Saturday.
"Tripathi was arrested red handed at Jeevan Anmol hospital in (east Delhi's) Mayur Vihar Phase-I when he approached the complainant doctor, Mahesh Kumar, around 9.45 p.m. Friday to take the delivery of Rs.1.5 lakh extortion money in lieu of a pen drive of a video film made by them," said a police officer.
The doctor, who runs a clinic in east Delhi's Mandawali, was threatened and an attempt was made to extort money was made by the accused who had made a video of his sessions with patients, said the officer.
Tiwari, resident of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, works as a freelance journalist and is the main conspirator, the officer said.
Mishra works as an information technology manager in India TV news channel while Tripathi works as a system administrator in the channel.
