IT official jailed in 1998 bribery case

Fifteen years after he was caught, a former assistant commissioner of the Income Tax Department has been sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rs.30,000, an official said here Monday.

In March 1998, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had caught Rajiv Kumar, the then income tax assistant commissioner, investigations, circle 27, Mumbai, for accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000, a CBI official said.

Kumar was chargesheeted in Sept 2000 for demanding the bribe from a complainant for settling his income tax assessment for the year 1995-1996.
