Ben Stiller mocks Joaquin Phoenix at Oscars

Hollywood funnyman Ben Stiller shocked the Oscars audience Sunday night by mocking retired actor Joaquin Phoenix as he stepped onstage to present the Best Cinematography award.

Contactmusic.com reports, the comic actor cast the dig on Phoenix's recent strange appearance on David Letterman's show wearing a wig and scruffy fake beard.

Phoenix raised concerns about his health as he mumbled three word answers and stuck his chewing gum under the interviewer's desk during the 10-minute chat earlier this month.

While presenting the award at the 81st Academy Awards in LA, Stiller, sporting a scruffy beard and chewing gum, turned his back away from co-host Natalie Portman and mumbled under his breath.

Portman jokily huffed: "This is ridiculous. You're chewing gum at the Oscars."

Stiller replied: "Oh, I'll take it out", before sticking it under the podium.

As the crowd roared with laughter he added: "I just want to take a break from being the funny guy."
