An army spokesperson was Sunday arrested in Manipur for allegedly carrying contraband (banned drugs) worth crores of rupees, said official sources.

Colonel Ajay Chowdhury, a public relations officer with the Indian Army, was held in Bilal while travelling from Imphal to Moreh in the north-eastern state.

Defence sources said police are investigating the matter.

There were five more people with the army officer in the two vehicles, they said.

"If found guilty, strict action will be taken against him," army spokesperson Colonel Jagdeep Dahiya told IANS.
