Punjab, Haryana temperatures hit 40 degree mark

Temperatures at most places across Punjab and Haryana Monday remained at over 40 degrees Celsius as the plains of north India sizzled in the heat wave, the weatherman said.

Hisar city in Haryana was the hottest at 44 degree Celsius while Karnal and Ambala towns in the same state recorded 41 and 40.2 degree Celsius, respectively.

In Punjab, a renewed heat wave saw Amritsar recording 41.3 degree Celsius, five degrees above normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala cities recorded 41 degree Celsius each.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a high of 40.4 degree Celsius - the first time this year that the temperature went beyond the 40 degree mark here.

Met officials here said the heat wave would continue for the next two days.
