New Delhi, June 4

A man was arrested here Thursday for throwing acid on his divorced wife and her younger sister and brother after barging into their home in central Delhi, police said.

Nadeem, who works at a bakery shop, went to Zubeda's home in Ranjeet Nagar reportedly in an inebriated state around 4 a.m. and threw acid on her younger sister Rubeda mistaking her for his estranged wife.

"When Zubeda and her brother went to help their sister, Nadeem also threw acid on them. Rubeda has suffered 35 percent burn injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

"Zubeda who suffered five percent burn injuries and her brother who suffered 10 percent burn injuries were discharged after treatment," said a police officer.

"Nadeem married Zubeda six years ago when she was 14. But after a few months they got divorced. Since then the victim was staying with her mother's family. Lately Nadeem was threatening that either the girl return to him or else face dire consequences," said the officer.

Nadeem was arrested and a case has been registered against him.
