Four candidates are in the fray for the June 20 elections for Jharkhand's two Rajya Sabha seats.
According to officials, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates and one each from the Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have filed their nomination papers. Wednesday was the last day for filing the papers.
In the fray are Ajay Maroo, who has previously been a Rajya Sabha member, and Anup Agrawal of the BJP; Hemant Soren, son of former Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren (JMM) and Dheewraj Sahu (Congress).
The two Rajya Sabha seats from the state fell vacant after BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Digvijay Singh quit after being elected to the Lok Sabha.
The BJP, which has an effective strength of 24 in the 81-member state assembly, is trying to get support of it's ally JD-U, which has four members.
The JMM and the Congress are fighting the elections together. The JMM has 17 legislators and the Congress nine.
