A 26-year-old east Delhi resident was arrested Thursday for raping his 12-year-old sister, police said.
Deshraj, who is a street vendor, was arrested after his family members caught him raping the girl late Wednesday, police said.
"The girl has been staying with her four brothers and their wives after her parents died four years ago. Last night (Wednesday), one of her sisters-in-law caught Deshraj when he was raping the girl. The accused then fled," a police officer said.
"She was taken to a hospital for medical examination and doctors confirmed the sexual assault," the officer added.
The girl, in her statement, said Deshraj had been raping her for the past one-and-a- half years.
