Kerala's Congress state unit president Ramesh Chennithala and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Oommen Chandy Wednesday met party president Sonia Gandhi to settle differences over the appointment of the party's state youth wing chief.

Chandy strongly opposed the removal of his supporter T. Siddique as the state Youth Congress president to appoint Liju, who was handpicked by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi through a talent search programme.

"We can not share the details of the Congress' organisational matters with the media," Chandy told reporters after the meeting.

Chandy had openly protested against Rahul Gandhi's decision and that had forced the central leadership to withdraw the decision and reinstate Siddique in the position just before the elections.

But the Congress central leadership re-appointed Liju as state wing president after the elections. Liju is considered close to Chennithala.

"All the issues will be settled amicably. The party will continue to function unitedly," Chennithala said.
