AAI gets Rs.99 crore for developing airports

New Delhi, July 6

Out of a total plan outlay of Rs.12,165 crore for the civil aviation ministry, a sum of Rs.190 crore will be provided as budgetary support to various organisations under the ministry, the government said Monday after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee presented the annual budget in Parliament.

Out of the Rs.190 crore, India's airport developer, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been allocated Rs.99.15 crore for development of airports.

While Rs.79.15 crore has been allocated for development of airports at Jammu, Srinagar and Puducherry besides a few other airports, Rs.20 crore has been allocated for development of airports in the north eastern states.

India's aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will get budgetary support of Rs.50 crore while Rs.14 crore will go to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to help these agencies implement their schemes.

A sum of Rs.10 crore has been allocated to government-owned chopper firm, Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. for building heliports in the National Capital Region (NCR) for use during the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Aviation training schools like the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi and Aeroclub of India have been provided Rs.8 crore and Rs.5 crore, respectively, the statement said.
