Budget is anti-farmer: Chouhan

Bhopal, July 6

Describing the union budget as anti-farmer and disappointing for the common man, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Monday said the central government has not shown sincere intention to curb rising prices and counter economic slowdown.

"This budget is going to compound the problems of the common man who is already facing the brunt of economic slowdown," Chouhan said in a statement.

He said the central government had paid only lip service to farmers.

"The budget has imposed a heavy interest of 7 percent on agricultural loans amounting to over Rs.300,000 while the Madhya Pradesh government has cut down the loan interest to as low as 3 percent from 5 percent."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme should ensure 200 days of employment instead of 100 days.

Chouhan said Madhya Pradesh had demanded Rs.24,000 crore for carrying out work in drought-affected areas but the budget was silent on this matter.
