The Tamil Nadu government will announce a slew of measures to help IT sector attract fresh investments, a senior official here said Wednesday.
"The proposals will be announced in the assembly," IT Secretary P.W.C. Davidar told reporters, but did not elaborate.
Davidar said the state's IT sector has done well despite the unsure market conditions. Its software exports have gone up 29 percent to Rs.36,680 crore last fiscal from Rs.28,426 crore the previous year.
Nearly 70 percent of the revenue came from software application and product development, according to official data.
The North American region contributed 58 percent of the state's revenue, followed by Britain with 12 percent.
Tamil Nadu houses nearly 1,700 software technology park units and 19 IT-related special economic zones (SEZ).
Exports from software SEZs crossed Rs.6,100 crore last fiscal, up from Rs.1,500 crore earned in 2007-08.
Five more SEZs are expected to be commissioned this fiscal.
Davidar said state-owned IT parks in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore will become operational this year.
Construction of similar parks in Tirunelveli and Tiruchirapalli will start in three months, he added.
