Chennai, July 10

Tamil Nadu will soon get its first battery-powered car plant, and India its second, to be set up by electric vehicle manufacturer Bavina.

According to a government statement Friday, Bavina Cars India has been allotted 100 acres in the special economic zone (SEZ) in Ranipet near here, promoted by the State Industries Promotion Corp of Tamil Nadu.

The company will invest around Rs.300 crore to roll out 25,000 cars annually from 2011 onwards, the statement said.

This will be the second battery-powered car production unit in the country after Bangalore's Reva Electric Car Co.
