A police official was in a critical condition after unidentified men shot at him and robbed him of his service revolver here, police said Monday.

The shooting occurred late Sunday night on the Meerut-Bulandshahr Road under Hafizpur police station of Ghaziabad, police said.

"Sub-inspector Surendra Singh posted at Nagola post under Kharkhauda police station of Meerut was returning to his residence in Bulandshahr on a motorcycle when some men rammed his bike from behind with their car," Superintendent of Police (Rural) K.K. Asthana said.

"Singh fell from his motorcycle, and the men shot him and fled with his service revolver. Singh, however, managed to inform the Hafizpur police about the incident before he lost consciousness," Asthana added.

Singh was rushed to the hospital where his condition was said to be critical, police said.

"We have registered a case against unidentified persons. We will nab them soon," Asthana added.
