Railway freight traffic increases 5 percent

New Delhi, July 13

Indian Railways have carried 213 million tonnes of freight during April-June 2009, registering an increase of about five percent over that registered in the year-ago period.

In the first quarter last fiscal, freight traffic stood at 203 million tonnes, the railways ministry said in a statement.

During June, freight traffic carried stood at nearly 72 million tonnes, an increase of about 10 percent over 65 million tonnes carried in the same month last year, the ministry said.
