Abu Dhabi, Oct 3

Unesco's Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage has identified 12 such items in eight countries in need of urgent safeguarding, WAM news agency reported Saturday.

The list includes three items from China. These are the Qiang New Year festival, traditional designs and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges and traditional Li textile techniques: spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering.

The committee, at its meeting here chaired by United Arab Emirates's Awadh Ali Saleh Al Musabi, considered that the viability of these cultural items was endangered, despite the efforts of the communities or groups concerned.
