The head of Germany's football federation would like coach Joachim Loew to stay in charge of the national team after next year's World Cup in South Africa.

After Germany clinched qualification for the tournament with a 1-0 win over Russia in Moscow Saturday, German federation DFB president Theo Zwanziger said he would like to extend Loew's contract.

Loew, who was assistant to Juergen Klinsmann up to the 2006 World Cup and took over after the tournament on home soil, had said talks on a new contract would depend on qualification for the World Cup.

Zwanziger said he would not be putting any pressure on Loew but "there is nothing standing in the way" of a new contract.

"I have confidence in Joachim Loew," he added.

"I have felt his tension in the last few days. He is a great coach who has done a lot for German football."
