Younis Khan has resigned as the Pakistan cricket captain following allegations of match fixing levelled against the team after its semi-final loss in the Champions Trophy.

Younis tendered his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ejaz Butt Tuesday, the Online news agency reported.

Younis was apparently fed up with the allegations levelled by the National Assembly Standing Committee for Sports against him following the semi-final defeat against New Zealand in South Africa.

Younis said that the chairman of the committee is spreading false rumours adding it is now very difficult for him to continue in such thorny circumstances. He said that he was hurt but still played for the national interest of the country.
