Five arrested for lynching youth in Orissa

Five people have been arrested here for lynching a youth on suspicion of theft, police said Saturday.

Manoj Prusty, 27, was caught by the residents of Turiput slum in Mancheswar industrial area here early Friday while he was allegedly trying to lift a cycle from the locality.

"The residents tied Manoj and beat him for several hours after which he succumbed to his injuries," Manoj's mother Jhumar Prusty told IANS.

Police Inspector Bishnu Charan Mishra said: "We have registered a murder case and detained five people from the slum."
