Lucknow, Nov 6

Eight people were arrested with fake medicines worth nearly Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million) in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, police said Friday.

“Acting on a tip off, we raided a hideout today (Friday) in the Haqiqatnagar locality, where the gang members had set up a manufacturing unit for spurious drugs," police inspector R.P. Dubey told reporters in Saharanpur.

Saharanpur is 350 km from here.

“Those arrested have admitted that they used to supply fake medicines to dealers in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana and other neighbouring states," he added.

According to police, the accused have admitted they were involved in manufacturing and supply of fake medicines for the last seven years.

“Those arrested have provided us vital clues for nabbing other members operating in various districts of Uttar Pradesh and its adjoining states," said Dubey.
